Hello all! I know it has been too long since my last post. But for the most I have a good excuse.
I'm a grad student. For teaching. I student teach during the day, and go to grad school at night. And then I read. and read. and read. And I personally think that excuse is valid.

But I felt that I HAD to update, and you all deserve it. SO even if this is brief, I hope it's helpful.

I have felt so lucky throughout this entire process.

Since my last update, I have continued to progress as normal, began eating solid food (that pesky popping DID go away), all of the swelling went down, the soreness went away, and lo and behold...

I GOT MY BRACES OFF.

Can you believe it? This picture was taken at a friend's wedding that I was in; it was one of the first times where everyone I knew saw me without my mouth of metal and "duck lips" ( a lovely nickname from my brother).

I have had no problems with receding, soreness, or anything else that have made me think "Should I really have done that?"

I am so beyond happy with my results, and other than the weight gain I experienced- I'm pretty sure I'm the only patient EVER to GAIN weight after having the jaw broken and rubberbanded together- I feel so confident!

So, to close: I highly recommend that everyone who needs the surgery (and the braces) JUST DO IT!!! I had the support of loving friends and family, and a doctor I trusted with (literally) my life, and the mentality of success. I suggest that these three things are the most important factors that will get you through the surgery. And really, you need only the support of one other person who can help take care of you those first few days :)

I will be continuing this blog with my life stories, so if you choose to continue following, by all means do. Mostly I will be continuing it because I no longer have, and refuse to create, a facebook account. So although the title will change, if anyone wants to hear my story of metal and magic, please feel free to stalk my blog, and comment if desired.

Thank you for all of your support and love you have all provided throughout this year, and I hope that those of you who have gone or have to go through this experience have the same success and positive results as I have!

Sincerely,

Amanda

Wow - I am at Day 11 and wih I would have seen this ealier. It's been a help today. I have had my hard wires cut off for 3 days now and in tight ruber bands. Being aboe to open my mouth (even though jsut slightly)is a hige mental boost. I am a 52 year old male and this surgery scared the hell out of me. Tons of anxiety in teh weeks before it happened. I fell the worsse is over. I go back to work tomorrow. My biggeet complaints are the numbness (even my tongue) and the tingly sensations. It seems like I am not lined up when I bite (no teeth touch) but I trust the doctors have it right. I have ben told that this is now like a borken bone and I simply need 5 more weeks "to get the cast off". At that time is everythign back to compelte normal or is there still numbness and tingly? The liquid diet does not both me at all. I am just so happy not to be wired shut!!!

  9. Congrats on getting the braces off! I'm so glad that you're very happy about the results, but I also want to commend you for recommending that those who need braces get them as soon as possible. A lot of people are turned off or scared of getting braces because of the pain and what they might look like. The results are always worth it though, and you're definitely a very good example of that. Were you made to wear retainers to make the effects of the braces more permanent?

If you аre not skillеd with a sewіng mаchinе or don't own one, you can just use material adhesive, making sure that you use the waterproof variety. re also going to need to think about the kind of curtains you. Use glass-lined shelves in the wall to add areas to store magazines, additional paper products, towels or scented candles to create a relaxing ambiance.

You are correct Greg about the lemon pH, but baking soda is a
neutralizer against all acids, so the pH combo of lemon
and baking soda will be much more of base, or neutral pH.
The lemon oil will need to be washed off with bar soap, because only soap will wash the lemon oil off in the enamel.
Tooth paste will not; info for all your lemon eaters
    as well.
You can also used the combo,
which wasn't mentioned inside the article, of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. I've been using that for years
with excellent success. It is easy to make a paste to brush with.

This can be completely incorrect. You should
read a guide named "The China Study" and after that read "Forks more than Knives".

I am one of the few for whom jaw surgery has gone wrong. I have been left with hypersensitivity in my chin and muscles still frozen after over 9 months post op. I am desperately trying to find ANYONE who has experienced the same. Op itself was a success for my bite (lower jaw brought forward) but the post op problems have been a disaster causing me much pain, anguish and depression. Anyone help????

I three weeks away from lower jaw surgery and while extremely looking forward to the results am nervous about recovery. Your process was very encouraging, especially the speed at which you began talking, moving and activity as normal. Great tips on tools, diet and vitamins. Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your gorgeous smile. :)
